Local Artist Exhibits Paintings of Water Lilies and Iris

The State Theatre will host an exhibit and sale of original paintings by local artist Alice Kelsey throughout the month of July. The exhibit, "Water Lilies and Iris: At the Pond," is a series of pastel paintings highlighting scenes and atmosphere of a serene pond located near Julian. Most of the paintings were started on location, and focus on the flowers, vegetation, and reflections found at the water's edge.

Kelsey's work focuses primarily on Central Pennsylvania landscapes. She has exhibited her work and received awards at regional and national shows, including the Revington Arthur Award for Excellence in Painting at the 2005 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Her painting entitled Pears on Ebony was selected by the 2007 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts as a design for one of the official t-shirts, and highlights a series of three colorful pears sitting on a black piece of ebony. Kelsey lives outside Warriors Mark, and is a founding member of the Farmland Preservation Artists, and a member of the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society, and the Maryland Pastel Society.

The exhibit is in the lobby of The State Theatre, and is available for viewing when the theatre is open for events (most evenings- see www.thestatetheatre.org or call 272-0606 for schedule). For more information about the show and sale, visit Kelsey's website www.alicekelsey.com, or call her studio at 692-4438.
